Supermodel surfer Elle Macpherson hit the waves at Byron Bay yesterday in a skimpy black wetsuit, its cheeky high-cut design showing off bikini tan lines on her famous long legs – and even more.
After shooting the curl with Byron’s surf coach to the stars, former US champion Rusty Miller, the 47-year-old stripped down in the carpark to an equally brief black bikini.
Macpherson and her family, including dad Peter Gow and her sons Flynn, 13, and Cy, 8, are spending the Christmas-New Year holiday in a multimillion dollar holiday pad at Wategos Beach.
As well as showing plenty of skin, Macpherson – who came under fire from the British press a couple of years ago for parading her ageing knees on the catwalk – was also displaying a nasty cold sore on her lip.
The London-based Aussie wasn’t pleased to see the paparazzi on the beach and interrupted her surf to confront a photographer, demanding to see his pictures.
After several days of wild waves whipped up by ex-Cyclone Fina, Macpherson joined tens of thousands of other beachgoers making the most of tamer ocean conditions.
Beaches on the Gold and Sunshine coasts reopened after being closed since Christmas Day because of treacherous surf.
Making the most of safer conditions were Jonathon Egan, 13, and his brothers Daniel, 10, and Nicholas, 11, from Brisbane who enjoyed a day of fun at Currumbin.
Mainly fine weather is forecast for the southeast heading into the New Year long weekend, with maximum temperatures in the high-20s and just the chance of a few showers tonight and on New Year’s Eve.
