Strong winds and high waves have caused delays to the ferry service linking Padang Bai harbour in East Bali with Lembar harbour in West Lombok.
“Due to over two metre high waves the ships crossing became very dangerous,” stated Transport Operations manager Eko Yulianto yesterday in Padang Bai.
According to Eko, normal crossing times in fair conditions between the two ports is usually around four hours, but the adverse weather conditions meant that travel times were increased to five or even six hours.
“The scheduled departure of vessels has been adjusted to account for these conditions,” added Eko. However, the number of ferries departing to Lombok remains as normal, with up to 24 crossings per day.
Ferry passengers can expect delays to continue until the bad weather has abated.
