IndoSurfLife.com | 2 August, 2012 | Kuta, Bali – Bethany Hamilton, world-renowned professional surfer and subject of the major motion picture Soul Surfer, will meet with fans and sign autographs at the Rip Curl Memorial Store on Jalan Legian in Kuta, Bali, Indonesia on Friday, August 3rd beginning at 5 pm. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the courageous young woman who’s personal story has inspired people around the world to never give up on pursuing their dreams.
Hamilton, 22, from Kauai, Hawaii, is currently in Bali preparing to surf in the 2012 Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang Invitational (July 15 – August 26). Hamilton is the first-ever woman surfer to receive an invitation to the Rip Curl Cup. The fearless goofyfooter, known for her exploits in powerful waves, is ecstatic about the opportunity to meet her many fans in Bali, and will be available to autograph Padang Cup T-shirts, event posters, journals, surfboards and more. In addition, Rip Curl will be giving away free goodies and products.
In 2003 Hamilton became arguably the world’s most famous surfer when, at the age of 13, she was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark while surfing off Kauai’s North Shore. The attack left Hamilton with a severed left arm. Miraculously, just one month after the attack, she returned to the water to continue pursuing her goal of becoming a professional surfer. In 2004 Hamilton published a best-selling autobiography entitled Soul Surfer, which was later made into a successful motion picture that played to audiences around the globe.
Prior to her appearance at the Rip Curl Memorial Store on Friday, Hamilton will host a surf lesson for children from the Benih Harapan Orphanage at 3 pm on Legian Beach in Kuta. The surf lesson with Bethany Hamilton is a joint effort by the Rip Curl School of Surf and Soul Surf Project Bali, a group that connects underprivileged youth in Bali with surfing equipment and lessons. Rip Curl will also donate surfboards to Soul Surf Project Bali.
