KMP Citra Mandala Sakti ferry was stranded in the middle of the Bali Strait during a crossing from Ketapang in Banyuwangi, East Java, to Gilimanuk in Jembrana, west Bali, on Thursday night.
The ferry ran aground on a coral reef.
Wahyudi, operations manager of PT ASDP port management in Gilimanuk, said that the ferry was carrying 79 passengers, including 16 children. The passengers panicked and were taken to the ferry’s VIP room while waiting for the rescue team to evacuate them.
The rescue team faced technical difficulties towing the ferry, but the passengers were all safely evacuated on Friday morning.
