World Surf League 2015 Schedule

The 2015 World Surf League (formerly ASP) schedule has been released and the only real change — other than losing the women’s US Open — is that of the name. For both Men’s and Women’s tours, the 2015 schedule mirrors that of 2014, apart from a few date changes.

For the men’s tour, the same 11 events will determine the first-ever World Surf League champion with each event offering $525,000 in prizemoney. The Australian leg is the lengthiest at two months with the Quik Pro Gold Coast starting on Feb 28, followed by Bells over its traditional Easter slot and the rather maligned Drug Aware Margaret River Pro, having a waiting period finishing April 26. Margarets is followed by Rio and in terms of wave potential, this is probably the weakest link in a tour that bursts into life with Fiji, J-Bay and then Teahupo. With the Pipe ending, plus Trestles and Europe, there is weight to the argument that the WSL still features the world’s best surfers in the world’s best waves.

The women’s schedule has changed from 10 events down to 9 with the removal of the US Open of Surfing. They have nine events, with seven of those shared with the men.
