The 12th edition of the Rip Curl Cup gets underway on August 1, and as is tradition Rip Curl will commence proceedings with a spectacular celebration to signify the opening of the competition waiting period that same day.
The local Mangku will meet the surfers on Padang Padang beach at 4.30pm for a 5pm a prayer and ceremonial blessing. At 7.30pm our VIPs will deliver their welcoming addresses, update us on the latest surf forecast, and welcome and congratulate the winner of the trials. The fabulous local Kecak dancers will then take centre stage before a traditional Wayang puppet show rounds out the evening’s entertainment in fine style.
This year the Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang event window runs from August 1st to 31st, and the reduced field and smaller waiting period increase the possibility of scoring incredible waves and witnessing the best action the event has ever seen. In addition to the Opening Ceremony talking place this weekend, we can confirm that the Trials for the Rip Curl Cup will take place this Friday, July 31st, at Uluwatu. Competitors are asked to meet at 6.30am for a 7am start to Round 1. Coinciding with the Rip Curl Cup Trials is the annual Padang Padang beach clean up, where Rip Curl staff and volunteers from Project Clean Uluwatu will clean the beach, valley and car park.
The legendary Rip Curl Cup rooftop party will again take place at Rip Curl headquarters on Sunset Road, this time at the end of the window on August 28.
