Within the framework of enhancing security in a key tourism area and controlling the flow of narcotics, the West Nusa Tenggara Water Police have increased patrols in the waters surrounding Lombok’s west coast and the Gili Islands, quoted from Bali Discovery.
As reported by Beritabali.com, the focus of the patrols is on preventing the unlawful entry of narcotics to and from the Gili Islands and Lombok.
The tighter security cordon around the Gili Islands was announced by a spokesman for the West Nusa Tenggara Water Police (Polda Air NTB) on Monday, May 30, 2016.
“A week from now, the NTB Water Police will control ships and fast books entering the NTB Province, including ensuring their documentation is complete, reviewing passenger particulars, compliance with safety rules, checking passenger manifests and inspecting items being carried to and from the Gili’s,” said Dewa Wijaya of the Polda Air NTB.
Police are intent on controlling the movement of alcohol and narcotics to and from the Gili Islands and will be using trained drug detection dogs to assist them in their work.
