After Several Days of Changing Traffic Directions, Police in Kuta Restore Two-Way Flows

On Friday, February 17, 2017, just two days after the introduction of new traffic flow rules on Jalan Singosari and Jalan Kartika Plaza in Kuta, Bali, police have suspended their plans and returned to established traffic patterns, as quoted from Bali Discovery.

As reported by Balipost.com, officials announced the change back to the traffic status quo was done “to accommodate the people’s aspirations” that demanded that Jalan Kartika Plaza be restored to a two-way street.

The community chief (Kelian), I Ketut Werka, said many local residents living on Jalan Kubu Anyar had complained that traffic was diverting to their areas traveling via local alleyways to circumvent the one-way rule.

As a result, those living in the area felt uncomfortable with the sudden increase in traffic traveling past their homes. Police defended the sudden change, saying the new traffic pattern, was only in its trial phase, and in any case, the return to the status quo was done for the public’s sake.

Police pledged they would continue to look for a “win-win” solution in solving traffic congestion problems in Kuta. At the same time, police are calling on the public to help relieve traffic congestion by stopping the practice of parking illegally on roadsides and not driving large vehicles in areas where they are banned entry. Taxis are also being asked not to wait for passengers while parked on roadsides and not to park their vehicles in a careless manner.
