The Chief of the Provincial Police for Bali Inspector General Reinhard Golose has announced that his office is in the process of creating a special “street crime force”, as quoted from Bali Discovery.
The force will undergo special training in order to tackle thugs, gangs, robbers, motorcycle gangs and alike. This new force will also be conversant with how to handle narcotics-related crimes and terrorism.
Speaking on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, General Golose said a Street Crime Force was needed to absolutely guarantee safety in a tourist area such as Bali.
The Street Crime Force members will be drawn from the Satuan Sabhara (alert patrols) and will be provided with special training. Those selected, according to General Golose, will be tall, well-built, skilled in hand-to-hand combat and have a high IQ. The force will be issued with special weaponry and will undergo intense training at police headquarters in Jakarta.
Once training is completed, the members of the Street Crime Force will return to Bali to be deployed in crowded public areas such as terminals, markets, tourism areas, public gatherings spots, and ports.
In accordance with instructions issued by the President, the police in Bali will be trained to fight transnational crime; how to recognize radicalism and terrorist movements; and in how to foster good community relations.
