Rip Curl Cup Back In Holding Pattern; Next Potential Contest Swell On Aug. 3rd

Due to a lack of epic surf conditions at Padang Padang on Friday morning, the Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang will not hold competition this week and will instead wait for a larger swell on the charts for next week.

Surf conditions at Padang Padang on Friday morning were well below the size and quality standards required to hold the Rip Curl Cup. With a significantly larger swell in the forecast for next week (Aug. 3rd-5th), event directors elected to switch the official event status from “Amber: High Alert” back to “Red: Stand By.”

According to Surfline, official forecaster of the Rip Curl Cup, “At this time, the forecast is looking very promising for a dose of solid back-to-back SW-SSW pulses next week (Aug 3rd-5th), with potential for larger surf than what we’ll see this week.”

Contest directors are monitoring the forecast charts closely and the 16 invited surfers to the 2017 Rip Curl Cup are all currently in Bali and standing by for the next big swell.
