A huge Final day at the Taiwan Open of Surfing hosted by Taitung County has seen champions crowned across three WSL and local divisions. Indonesian sensation Oney Anwar has won the Qualifying Series (QS) 1,500 event, Frenchman Edouard Delpero has taken out the Men’s Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS) event and the Women’s LQS event has been taken out by Honolua Blomfield. Conditions were tough at Jinzun Harbour on the Final day with 4 foot waves and strong cross shore winds.
With just a week until the opening day of the 2017 Taiwan Open of Surfing hosted by Taitung County Government, competitors from both shortboard and longboard disciplines await to see what mother nature will provide in the way of waves for the final World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) and Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS) event in the Australasia region for the year.
The World Surf League (WSL) has released the 2017 schedule of events covering the men’s and women’s Samsung Galaxy Championship Tours (CT), Qualifying Series (QS), Pro Junior and Longboard tours as well as the WSL Big Wave Tour (BWT).
In a do-or-die three days of surfing, both the Rip Curl Gromsearch #5 and the Rip Curl Gromsearch National Finals were decided in challenging conditions at Lakey Peak, Dompu, Sumbawa.
This Weekend the prestigious Gromsearch Series Juggernaut continues on to the perfect surf of Lakey Peak, Sumbawa for the conclusion of the series, the National finals and the crowning of the 2016 Gromsearch National Champion. In what is sure to be the most high voltage surfing of the series so far, Friday, November 4th, the Peak will be reserved for the GromSearch #5 as competitors in this years close race get one last shot at a spot in the National Finals.
2015 ASC Men’s Champion Raditya Rondi from Kuta, Bali took down current rankings leader Dede Suryana (West Java) in the final of the Rote Open 2016 today to claim his 3rd ASC win of the year and move up to 3rd in the rankings behind Philmar Alipayo (Philippines) who is in 2nd, and Suryana who remains in first place with his runner up finish.
The 3rd annual Hurley Bingin Open 2016, organized and run by the Bingin Boardriders was just completed with over 200 international and local athletes competing in 6 division: Under 14, Under 16, Women’s, Master’s, Pro Junior and Open. The event had a one-week waiting period but needed only 3 day to run.
While John John Florence was being handed his first World Title trophy, 11x World Champion Kelly Slater could be seen taking it all in perched on the tower above. Slater beamed with pride as his star pupil was officially anointed the master. The whole scene inspired Slater, who took a few minutes afterwards to reflect on his own season, and how the next generation is keeping him in the game.
The International Surfing Association (ISA) – the International Federation for Surfing and StandUp Paddle (SUP) – has today heralded a new era of cooperation with the World Surf League (WSL) after the latter endorsed the participation of professional athletes in the ISA World Surfing Games which will take place in Biarritz, France on May 21-28, 2017.
John John Florence (HAW), clinched the 2016 World Surf League (WSL) Title in dramatic fashion with a victory at the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal in Peniche, marking the first time a Hawaiian has held the world surfing crown since the late Andy Irons (HAW) in 2004.
