Continued small surf in the one-to-two (0.5 metre) range has prompted Billabong Rio Pro event organizers to call the fifth, consecutive lay day today.
On Sunday morning May 12th, Halfway Kuta Boardriders ran their second contest at their home break of Halfway on Kuta Beach. This time the contest was primarily for the Open Division but an Expression Session for the juniors and grommets was also part of the day’s excitement. There were 32 surfers competing in the Open Division, so four man heats were run to save time and also to make the heats more exiting for spectators and the surfers themselves.
Tyler Wright (AUS), 19, has defeated Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 22, in a high-scoring final of 17.80 to 15.67 to win the Colgate Plax Girls Rio Pro in peaky two-to-three foot waves, simultaneously taking the frontrunner position on the 2013 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour (WCT).
The Asian Surfing Championships is delighted to announce that the 4-star ASC sanctioned West Java Surfing Championship 2013 will be held in Cimaja, West Java (province of Sukabumi) from May 31-June 3rd.

In a late afternoon ceremony today in the village of Katiet on Sipora Island in the Mentawai Islands of West Sumatra, after several speeches and trophy presentations, Regent Yudas Sabbagalet sounded the drum to officially announce the end of the Mentawai Pro presented by Rip Curl Asian Surfing Championship Premium grade international surfing competition that started on April 21st.

Anticipation of an incoming swell today had Contest Director James Hendy call for a lay day yesterday at the Mentawai Pro presented by Rip Curl, which allowed the contestants more time to free surf and also to visit a local school and meet with the kids.
Marvius, a 21 year old Katiet local, clearly proved himself the worthy wildcard entry for the remaining spot in the Mentawai Pro presented by Rip Curl at Lance’s Right on Tuesday, dominating in each of his heats and ending the day posting the day’s highest single wave score of 8 points (out of a possible 10) as well as the highest two-wave combined score of 14.10 points (out of a possible 20) in the 40 minute final.
