Nearly every surfer has experienced the sensation: pinned to the ocean bottom, trying to swim for the surface, desperate for a few quick gasps of air to avoid what might happen if they don’t. Water swirling; surroundings dark; up is down, down becomes up. It’s a scary moment and therefore, a tough time to stay composed – even the pros say so.
Adam Melling, Mitch Parkinson and Harry Bryant find a wave that hasn’t broken in two years. The boys found themselves in the Telos for the Muzza Swell and while it wasn’t the biggest they did discover some of the most perfect waves in the region.
Opening day of the Billabong Pro Tahiti greeted the ASP Men’s top competitors with 10-15 ft surf at Teahupo’o. It was a full day of both triumph and tragedy as amazing rides went down, and cringing wipeouts were had. Owen Wright (Aus) put on a masterly display of back-hand surfing to defeat fellow Australian Adam Melling (Lennox Head/NSW) in the final of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 4-star Breaka Burleigh Pro today on the Gold Coast.
Australian Adam Melling, from Lennox Head NSW, has won the US$250,000 VANS World Cup of Surfing at Sunset Beach, Hawaii – exactly what he needed to retain a position on the ASP World Tour for 2013. Melling, 27, won US$40,000 and moved to equal second on the VANS Triple Crown series ratings.
Adam Melling and Lee Wilson go off the beaten path to travel to the remote Indonesian Island of Sumatra for some “Fun in the Sun.” The boys end up getting just that, scoring fun right-hand barrels and air sections for days.
