Jordy Smith (ZAF), 25, has won the Billabong Rio Pro in a hard-fought final over national favorite Adriano de Souza (BRA), 26, by a score of 17.80 to 16.34 in clean two-to-four foot (1 metre) waves at Barra Da Tijuca.
Continued small surf in the one-to-two (0.5 metre) range has prompted Billabong Rio Pro event organizers to call the fifth, consecutive lay day today.
Joel Parkinson Wins 2012 ASP World Title, Seals Season with Billabong Pipe Masters Victory
The grommies head to Bali and Mentawai Islands for some epic weeks of fun and pumping waves. The young surfers prove their skills in a place where there is never any shortage of waves. Featuring Shaun Manners, Sebastian Williams, Josh Burke, Reef Heazlewood, Luke Wrice, Jared Szele and super grom Kian Martin.
Kauai’s Sebastian Zietz (HAW), 24, has won the 2012 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Title (an ASP Specialty Series) by advancing to Round 3 of the Billabong Pipe Masters in pumping six-to-eight foot (2 metre). Zietz wins a record $100,000 bonus in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the Series, hydrated by vitaminwater, as well as a $30,000 Harley Davidson and a $10,000 custom Nixon watch. Zietz eliminated ASP WCT surfer Travis Logie (ZAF), 33, to move ahead.
This is a surf video of the potential 2012 World Champion, Joel Parkinson. Parko will soon board a plane on the Gold Coast and fly to Hawaii, land at Honolulu Airport, and drive to the North Shore. It’ll be the 12th time he’s made the trip as a WT surfer. And, maybe the last time as a man who doesn’t own a world title. He’s been close. He’s finished second in the world four times. Twice to Andy Irons, once to Mick Fanning and once to Kelly Slater. He now faces the latter two in a Pipeline decider for this year’s title. Do you think Joel can do it?

They found some treasure but had to share the bounty with three frothing juniors Mitch Parkinson, Soli Bailey, and Matiea Hiquily. Solid 8-to-10 foot sets reel down from No Man’s Land to Laceration’s Reef
On Monday September 3rd all surfers in Indonesia would awake to the sound of the ocean thundering across all of her reefs. As line-ups slowly became over crowded with professional and free surfers – this would be the day to be a LST (Lembongan Surf Team) rider.
It has definitely been an exciting Sunday for the Bali grommets, with the 5th installment of the 2012 Magic Wave Billabong Grommet Series, taking place at Halfway Kuta Beach, on August 26th. The grommets showed their best performance and determination on ripping up the waves, enthusiastically struggling to find the best waves to surf in order to claim the first trophy from Bali Governor.
