Sebastian Zietz Wins 2012 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing

Kauai’s Sebastian Zietz (HAW), 24, has won the 2012 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Title (an ASP Specialty Series) by advancing to Round 3 of the Billabong Pipe Masters in pumping six-to-eight foot (2 metre). Zietz wins a record $100,000 bonus in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the Series, hydrated by vitaminwater, as well as a $30,000 Harley Davidson and a $10,000 custom Nixon watch. Zietz eliminated ASP WCT surfer Travis Logie (ZAF), 33, to move ahead.

This is a surf video of the potential 2012 World Champion, Joel Parkinson. Parko will soon board a plane on the Gold Coast and fly to Hawaii, land at Honolulu Airport, and drive to the North Shore. It’ll be the 12th time he’s made the trip as a WT surfer. And, maybe the last time as a man who doesn’t own a world title. He’s been close. He’s finished second in the world four times. Twice to Andy Irons, once to Mick Fanning and once to Kelly Slater. He now faces the latter two in a Pipeline decider for this year’s title. Do you think Joel can do it?

It has definitely been an exciting Sunday for the Bali grommets, with the 5th installment of the 2012 Magic Wave Billabong Grommet Series, taking place at Halfway Kuta Beach, on August 26th. The grommets showed their best performance and determination on ripping up the waves, enthusiastically struggling to find the best waves to surf in order to claim the first trophy from Bali Governor.
