With a lack of swell the contest has begun in everybody’s favorite playground, Canggu. On early Saturday morning all the contestants participated in the traditional opening ceremony and Balinese blessing, a feast of cross-cultural images for the photographers so used to focusing on the water.

IndoSurfLife.com | October 7, 2012 | Canggu, Bali: Day 2 of the 2012 Oakley ASP World Junior Championships Bali saw the ladies hit the water for their opening round of competition today. Three foot (1.5 meter) right handers peeled down the reef at Echo Beach, Canggu, providing the perfect canvas for the women to battle to be the first ASP Women’s World Junior Champion to be crowned in Indonesia.
Round 1 Called On at the Oakley ASP World Junior Championships

The day began with a Balinese blessing ceremony, with all competitors dressed in traditional attire on the black sand beach with clean and crisp 3 to 4 foot (1.5 meter) waves breaking on the reef out the front.

The 2012 Oakley World Pro Junior event waiting period will start off in leftover southwest swell that had peaked earlier in the week, although surfwill still be medium size at Canggu. Decreasing and smaller leftovers take over Sun/Mon. We’ll see a medium size south-southwest swell mix move in later Tue and Wed the 9th-10th, with a larger south-southwest swell for the 11th-12th. More south-southwest swell is on track for the 14th.
Rizal Tanjung, Lee Wilson, Marlon Gerber, Mega Semadhi, Mustofa Jeksen, those are names that we are used to hearing and seeing in mags. They get a great deal of media coverage and are always getting the best waves in Bali or around Indonesia.
We have been talking to Salini for so long, planning a surfing photo shoot. We were having a hard time to make it happen as she lives in Java and IndoSurfLife.com is based in Bali, but then she rang us saying that she was coming to Bali for few days before going to Thailand for a big contest in Phuket.
End of the school semester, we wait the whole year for this moment to surf somewhere different, instead of just canggu every day, where I live.
With a blink of an eye, every thing has gone back to normal, school, friends, surfing in the afternoon when there’s wind because I can’t surf in the morning before school. Continue reading
