With a lack of swell the contest has begun in everybody’s favorite playground, Canggu. On early Saturday morning all the contestants participated in the traditional opening ceremony and Balinese blessing, a feast of cross-cultural images for the photographers so used to focusing on the water.

Three foot (1.5 meter) right handers peeled down the reef at Echo Beach, Canggu, providing the perfect canvas for the women to battle to be the first ASP Women’s World Junior Champion to be crowned in Indonesia.

The day began with a Balinese blessing ceremony, with all competitors dressed in traditional attire on the black sand beach with clean and crisp 3 to 4 foot (1.5 meter) waves breaking on the reef out the front.
Solid southwest swell to hit Canggu for the start of the Oakley World Pro Junior

The 2012 Oakley World Pro Junior event waiting period will start off in leftover southwest swell that had peaked earlier in the week, although surfwill still be medium size at Canggu. Decreasing and smaller leftovers take over Sun/Mon. We’ll see a medium size south-southwest swell mix move in later Tue and Wed the 9th-10th, with a larger south-southwest swell for the 11th-12th. More south-southwest swell is on track for the 14th.
