Picture perfect Padma Beach delivered the goods yesterday in the second leg of the Billabong Grommet Attack 2015 series. 2-3 foot waves rolled in under blue skies and off shore winds, creating a peaceful scene that was in direct contrast to the highly competitive grom action taking place out in the water. And indeed they did, with verve and determination, having to be boated out to the distant line-up and then left to paddle in. “That is the physical education element of this contest” laughed parent Cacho Izquierdo, “It’ll put a little meat on their bones”.
After a successful opener at Sanur Reef on May 31st that attracted quite a crowd of both spectators and groms, the second event of the three event series will get underway at Padma Beach on Thursday June 25th. Originally scheduled for June 28th, the event has been called up a few days early as the swell forecasters are all predicting a massive swell to hit on Saturday the 27th, rendering Padma totally unusable for any event,let alone a grommet event on Sunday.

Grommets ruled once again last weekend as the 11th annual Rip Curl GromSearch National final came down in the crystal clear reefs of Lembongan Island with Indonesia’s best young Grommets battling it out in 4-6 foot dream waves. The famous break of Shipwrecks turned on for the finals throwing plenty of offshore glassy barrels over the shallow reef for the groms to secure big scores.
