Indonesia got really crowded in the last few years, Roberto D’Amico proving that there are still some empty waves around the Islands. The short has been filmed in Sumbawa, Sumatra, Lombok and Bali Featuring his team mate Mikala Jones and friend Mattia Morri.
It was a big system coming to Indo. In the beginning it looked very solid and in spite of not living up to these initial expectations the swell that rolled in was of a good size and with a long period. My intention was to go somewhere different, as every year Lakey Peak is getting more and more exposed. No doubt the waves are really good at Lakeys and you have plenty of options but I wanted to escape from the crowd and shoot other waves with the boys.
Mattia plays with the tropical scenery where he’s found really fun waves to surf. He’s always gentle and smooth on his board but at the same time he’s trying to give us CHEAP THRILLS !
IndoSurfLife.com was lucky enough to score a berth on the Aileoita 1’s maiden voyage of the year. Surrounded by friends, all keen, some green, we cruised around the archipelago in early April ready for a good time.
Sailing between spots we only saw about 6 other boats and relished the friendly or empty lineups in what truly is an idyllic locale. Even without a strong forecast, our guide managed to find fun waves all over and by the end of the trip everyone was beyond surfed out and inspired to plan a return visit. Live vicariously through our pics and book your own trip soon.
A tiny collected of what Mattia Morri does when usually is in Indonesia.

A new video featuring Insight’s stylish ripper Mattia Morri on the hunt for waves during wet season in Indonesia. Including Bali, Sumbawa and Java.
The waves were 3-4ft with long rippable walls and a few barrels to mix things up. The light onshore breeze cooled off those on the beach but did not take away from the waves quality.
