Tahitian surfer Mateia Hiquily had a pretty good year in terms of trips and waves. From Tahiti to Indo to Mexico to Hawaii and back to Tahiti. Here’s a recap.
This is a curation of footage from life as a travelling 16-year-old junior pro. Locations include a Simeulue, in the Aceh Province, originally intended as a four-day strike mission but ended with lost baggage, planes catching fire and airport sleeps. Then there’s a stint in New Zealand, some time in Taiwan and a more recent sojourn to the Mentawais.
This, the most recent, is of Adriano De Souza training between events at Mentawai. He’s sitting 7th right now on the World Tour, having a typical De Souza season, all top-ten finishes, not one signature moment. He’s got this whole pro surfer thing pretty dialed.

Indonesia has been having a belter of a season. This is Nate Behl scoring ‘The Right’. They tend to have a way of instilling strange sense of peace, mingled with intense jealousy.
Sit back, relax and enjoy a unique, dreamy sunset passing through some magical changes in light from a surfers point of view riding deep inside the barrel. Filmed in Indonesia over two seperate sessions of the last hour of light. The waves are in the order as they happened. Jersey solo adventurer and POV enthusiast Ian Battrick decides to trade the thick frigid kegs of the British Isles for delectable warm, dreamy sunset shacks with a solo trip deep into Indo. All filmed over two separate surf sessions. Ain’t there’s just something about Indo glass that makes it instantly recognisable?
June is being very a special month in the Mentawai. A couple of weeks ago a big Southwest swell turned Kandui on, producing some big and scary barrels. Kandui “Faixa Preta” (Black Belt) shows an epic session on one of the most hollow and fast left-hander in the Mentawai.

Rifles is one of the jewels of Indonesia. A wave that rarely breaks but when it does… Oh my. Here’s a quick clip of Nate Behl and Drew Meredith scoring it going off!
