A not-so-secret-secret was our third target and the boys had a froth-fest. The boys got barrelled out of their brains and then some, enjoying the 2-4ft conditions with the odd bigger set steamrolling through.
Canggu is always a favourite, and in spite of the crowds these days the local boys know how to work the line-up and really turn it on. 2-4ft., a few barrels and plenty of space for fun turns and airs.

And so it went at the dream factory known as the 2015 Rip Curl GromSearch held at Seger Beach, Kuta, Lombok in 3-4 foot glassy conditions. “I just got back from the contest site” said Rip Curl’s Pete Matthews after returning from a pre-dawn surf check, “It feels like a WCT down there!”.
Perfect chest-to-head high, and bigger Halfway-Kuta, beach break peaks greeted the fourth and final Halfway Grommet Attack event on a sunny Sunday, 5 October 2014 in Bali. Grommet rippers attacked the predominantly right-hand long waves of Kuta, linking turns and airs all the way to the beach across the lengthy sandbar, a fitting finale for the stacked list of Indonesian and international junior surfers.
Grommets ruled once again last weekend as the 11th annual Rip Curl GromSearch National final came down in the crystal clear reefs of Lembongan Island with Indonesia’s best young Grommets battling it out in 4-6 foot dream waves. The famous break of Shipwrecks turned on for the finals throwing plenty of offshore glassy barrels over the shallow reef for the groms to secure big scores.

Top Indonesian and international junior surfers attacked super fun 2 – 4ft wave peaks at Halfway Beach in Kuta, Bali, during the season-opening Halfway Grommet Attack on Sunday 22 June 2014. Sanctioned by the ASC, age divisions at this event included Under 12 and Under 16 for the boys, Under 16 for the girls, and a Pushing Division for the micro groms who still need help getting into waves.
Grommets from all over Indonesia were on fire this weekend for the National Finals of the Rip Curl GromSearch 2013. From Bali to Lombok, Java to Sumbawa – 60 of the best young surfers came to the legendary Halfway Kuta Beach in quest of the National GromSearch Champion Title and a chance to get an all-expenses-paid-trip to the International Final “Somewhere” in 2014.
Volcom Qualifying Series Tour took place at Halfway, Kuta. It all started with the rising sun and this time the mission was “getting in the hole” and decide the champion of each category. The surfers has been collecting points during previews contest series and Halfway was the last stop to crown the Champions Of Volcom Stone’s Crustaceous Indo Tour 2013.
It’s been a good season – and we’re only just half way through July! In spite of the trade-winds unusually late arrival, early-breaking Padang and the WCT circus provided plenty of fun, not to mention an influx of surfing prowess to an otherwise already blessed island.
