Hurley and Nike to No Longer Sponsor US Open Of Surfing
After several years of sponsoring the US Open in Huntington Beach and taking it to a whole new level, Nike and Hurley are moving on and will not sponsor the event in 2013 or thereafter.
Julian Wilson (AUS), 23, has emerged victorious at the ASP Prime Nike US Open of Surfing over fellow ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) campaigner Miguel Pupo (BRA), 20, today at Huntington Beach.
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime Nike US Open of Surfing dove in to Round 1 of men’s competition today and saw several of the world’s best surfers put on banner performances amidst a day of heavy upsets.
The 2012 Nike US Open of Surfing returned to Huntington Beach Pier for the men’s trials and saw Hawaiian Torrey Meister (Kona, HI), 24, belt the day’s highest scores in improved two-to-three foot surf.
The biggest show on surf known as the U.S. Open of Surfing is set to hit Huntington Beach next week, bringing with it the masses that flock to the sand to be a part of all the spectacle and festivities for nine days straight.
Surf fans will be praying for waves, and watching the water to find out whether 11-time world champion Kelly Slater will take another Nike U.S. Open of Surfing title, or if an up-and-coming surfer will come out of nowhere to take the win.
